Govt increases petrol, diesel prices

Petrol shock: Price jumps by Rs 12 per litre

The government has increased both petrol and diesel prices. According to the issued notification, the government increased the petrol prices by Rs 4.42. After the increase in petrol prices, the new petrol price per litre is Rs 380.24. Similarly, the government also increased the diesel prices by Rs 6.10. After the increase, the new diesel price per litre is Rs 409.42. 

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed authorities to make the SMS service required for registration under the fuel subsidy scheme free of charge.

The directive was issued during a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister to review the fuel subsidy relief programme.

Under the scheme, motorcyclists, rickshaw owners and owners of vehicles up to 800cc will receive fuel subsidies.

The scheme will begin in Islamabad during the night between September 14 and 15, while the relief will be rolled out across the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, during the night between September 16 and 17.

Prime Minister Shehbaz instructed the chief commissioner, inspector general and other Islamabad administration officials to remain in the field and guide citizens through the registration process.

He directed authorities to provide people with all possible assistance in completing registration and other required procedures. Public representatives and volunteers will also be mobilised to help citizens register for the scheme and complete the necessary steps.
