Pakistani students have an opportunity to apply for the Hokkaido University MEXT Scholarship 2027 in Japan.
The scholarship is supported by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). It offers funded study opportunities to international students.
Will it cover tuition fees?
The scholarship can cover tuition fees and provide a monthly allowance. Selected students may also receive travel support to Japan.
Hokkaido University is offering several MEXT options for students seeking admission in 2027.
Its Graduate School of Engineering has opened the university recommendation process for Master’s and Doctoral students starting in October 2027.
Online applications are scheduled from October 20 to October 29, 2026.
Under this route, international students who are coming to Japan for the first time may be eligible. However, the number of available scholarships is limited.
Applicants must meet the academic and language requirements set by MEXT and the university.
What are other MEXT opportunities?
Hokkaido University is also accepting applications for some special graduate programmes.
The Graduate School of Science is offering a special MEXT programme for 2027. It includes four positions for doctoral students and one position for a Master’s student.
The first application period for this programme will run from October 1 to November 15, 2026.
Scholarship benefits
The MEXT scholarship can provide several benefits depending on the programme and scholarship category.

What is the monthly stipend?
The current monthly stipend is ¥117,000 for undergraduate students. Master’s and professional degree students can receive ¥144,000. Doctoral students can receive ¥145,000.
Research and non-regular students can receive ¥143,000 under the relevant category.
The stipend amounts may change based on the Japanese government’s yearly budget.
Students should also remember that MEXT does not use the same application process for every study level.
The 2027 undergraduate scholarship is mainly available through the embassy recommendation route.
