A Bangladesh government probe has held Asif Nazrul solely responsible for the country’s T20 World Cup withdrawal. The findings were released by a three-member committee on September 16. Former BCB general secretary Syed Ashraful Huq also appeared before the committee. Their accounts helped investigators examine the decision-making process.
Players reportedly wanted to play
The investigation also focused on the views of Bangladesh’s players. Shanto and Litton were present during a meeting involving Nazrul and BCB officials. The meeting took place after the ICC warned about Bangladesh’s participation. The warning came before Bangladesh was replaced by Scotland. According to the report, both players showed a positive attitude toward travelling to India. They reportedly wanted Bangladesh to take part in the World Cup.
The committee said Nazrul still made the final decision to withdraw. This became a central part of the investigation’s findings. The BCB later asked the ICC to move Bangladesh’s matches to Sri Lanka. However, the ICC rejected that request.
