The federal government’s Rs100 per litre petrol subsidy scheme to begin nationwide to provide relief to motorcycle, rickshaw and small-car users affected by higher fuel prices. The nationwide rollout, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, is scheduled from the night between September 16 and 17.
Eligible motorcycle, rickshaw, Qingqi, Chingchi and other users can receive a discount of Rs100 per litre on up to 20 litres of petrol each month. This provides maximum monthly relief of Rs2,000.
Owners of cars with an engine capacity of up to 800cc can receive the same Rs100 per litre subsidy on up to 30 litres each month, providing maximum relief of Rs3,000. The subsidy applies to petrol, not high-speed diesel.
Motorcycles up to 15 years old and eligible cars up to 20 years old can qualify. The government has also relaxed ownership requirements for motorcycles and three-wheelers held on open transfer letters. Such users can apply even when the vehicle remains registered in the previous owner’s name. However, cars owners must have the vehicle registered in their name.
How to register for Rs100 petrol subsidy?
- Use a mobile SIM registered against your own CNIC.
- Send an SMS to 9771 in this format: REG [13-digit CNIC] [Vehicle Registration Number] [Province Code] [Registration Date].
- Enter the vehicle registration date in the required date format. Province codes are I for Islamabad, P for Punjab, S for Sindh, K for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, B for Balochistan, A for Azad Jammu and Kashmir and G for Gilgit-Baltistan.
- After your information is verified, you will receive a confirmation message.
- When you want to purchase subsidised petrol, send TOK to 9771 to receive a fuel token.
- Motorcycle and three wheeler vehicle users receive a token covering five litres at a time, giving a Rs500 discount. Eligible car users receive a 10-litre token worth Rs1,000 in relief.
- Show the token to the attendant at a petrol station before purchasing fuel.
The government says registration does not require an app, website login or visit to a government office. The process is handled through SMS. Beneficiaries should not provide money, OTPs or personal information to people claiming they can register them for the subsidy.
