Pakistani YouTuber Rajab Butt has received relief in a case registered against him in Karachi over allegations related to religious sentiments. Reports stated that the case registered at the Hyderi Market Police Station has been dismissed.
The case gained attention from a complaint filed by lawyer Riaz Ali Solangi. It concerned a video that circulated on social media in which Butt was accused of disrespecting Islamic prayer.
The case was registered under Section 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code. This provision deals with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings of a community by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.
Butt had denied intending to disrespect religion. He also appeared in videos with religious scholars and apologised to anyone who may have been hurt by his actions.
Sindh High Court ordered Investigation
The legal proceedings continued for several months. In July 2026, the Sindh High Court considered Butt’s petition seeking to have the case cancelled.
At that stage, the court did not immediately cancel the FIR. Instead, it ordered the Inspector General of Sindh Police to ensure that the investigation was completed within three weeks.
The court also observed that time had passed since the case was registered in January 2025, while the investigation had still not been completed. It said keeping a citizen under investigation and uncertainty for an indefinite period was not appropriate.
At the time, prosecutors informed the court that a forensic report was still awaited and that the final challan would be prepared after receiving it.
Rajab Butt gets relief in Karachi case
The latest reports on Wednesday (today) stated that the Karachi case has now been dismissed, bringing this legal proceeding against the YouTuber to an end. Social media reports published also reported the dismissal of the case.
Butt had previously faced difficulties in the same case. A Karachi sessions court granted him interim pre-arrest bail in December 2025 against a surety bond of Rs100,000. However, that bail was later cancelled in April 2026 after he failed to appear before the court.
