Pakistan has refused to participate in the 2026 Asian Champions Trophy in India. Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Mohiuddin Ahmed Wani has requested the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) to shift Pakistan’s matches to a neutral venue.
According to media reports, the PHF president said the decision was made in view of the sensitive bilateral situation between Pakistan and India and the prevailing security conditions. He emphasised the importance of ensuring a safe, dignified, and conducive environment for the national players and officials.
Mohiuddin reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting the Asian Champions Trophy and global hockey, stating that Pakistan is ready to play against all FIH member nations, including India. He reiterated Pakistan’s position that sports should remain free from politics and expressed hope that the Asian Hockey Federation would respond positively to the proposal for a neutral venue.
The Asian Hockey Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in India from October 24 to November 5. On the other hand, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced that the Pakistan Hockey League will be held in the first quarter of 2027. PHF President Mohyuddin Wani stated that the league would not only promote hockey at the grassroots level but also provide opportunities for young, talented players to showcase their abilities.
Wani said that the journey toward reviving hockey in Pakistan had begun and that the league would introduce professional coaching and a modern hockey structure. He added that the league would provide players with opportunities to gain international exposure and develop their skills. The Pakistan Hockey Federation, in collaboration with its partners, is working tirelessly to make the league a historic milestone for Pakistani hockey.
