Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced good news for talented and deserving students and reviewed progress on the establishment of Daanish University.
Chairing a meeting on the project, the prime minister said providing quality and modern education to talented and deserving youth on merit was among the government’s priorities. He said Daanish University would provide students from across Pakistan with access to world-class education, modern facilities and advanced research opportunities.
Shehbaz said admissions to the university would be based purely on merit, while the institution was being developed as a centre of excellence in technology with modern educational, research and technical facilities.
The meeting was informed that 185 applications had so far been received for various faculty positions, with the selection process for qualified teaching staff currently underway.
A talent hunt programme has also been launched for students currently studying in the second year of FSc and A-Levels for admission to Daanish University’s Virtual School. Selected students will receive five months of completely free online classes.
According to the briefing, the entry test for the Virtual School will be held on October 24, 2026, in more than 40 cities across Pakistan.
The university building is expected to be completed next year, while regular academic activities are scheduled to begin on September 20, 2027.
The university will initially offer programmes in bioengineering, electrical engineering, artificial intelligence, computer science, technology and social sciences. A bridge programme will also be conducted from August 10 to September 14, 2027, to prepare students for regular university studies.
Punjab asks 25,000 STI teachers to keep teaching after contracts expire
The Punjab School Education Department earlier asked around 25,000 School Teacher Interns (STIs) to continue teaching in schools, according to a report.
The decision has come as the official notification to extend their contracts has been delayed.
The department has told all STIs to keep doing their teaching duties.
School Education Secretary Mudassar Riaz Malik said the interns would receive their salaries after the summer break. They will also be paid for the time they continued working during the delay.
