The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Higher Education Department has announced two weekly holidays for government and private colleges across the region.
Under the new schedule, colleges will observe Saturday and Sunday as weekly holidays, while classes and routine academic activities will continue from Monday to Friday.
According to an official notification issued by the AJK Higher Education Department, the five-day working week will take effect immediately.
The decision applies to all public and private colleges under the administrative control of the AJK Higher Education Department.
College administrations have been directed to implement the new schedule, with academic and other routine activities to be conducted during the five working days.
With the change, AJK colleges will now follow a five-day working week, bringing their schedule in line with similar arrangements in several other parts of the country.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Elementary and Secondary Education Department has addressed the issue of the fake notification that was shared on social media about the education institutions in KP Province being closed on Friday and Saturday.
The department has announced that it is not the department’s notification and has eliminated the confusion among parents, teachers and students regarding the weekly schedule of schools and other educational institutions.
The education department said a bogus notification was being widely shared on social media claiming that educational institutions would be closed on Fridays and Saturdays for two months as part of measures to conserve fuel.
The bogus notification stipulated that all government and private primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will declare holidays on Friday and Saturday every week.
It also announced that educational activities will be carried out during the remaining four days of the week according to the new schedule. The notice raised concern for parents, students and teachers, who weren’t sure if the changes had been officially approved by the provincial government.
But the KP Elementary and Secondary Education Department has declined to endorse the notification and explained that the notification that is being circulated online is not an official government decision.
The clarification follows the continued debate on steps to conserve fuel and resources in the current regional situation. The announcement by the department should ease concerns among students, parents and teachers who had been awaiting confirmation of the changes in the academic calendar reported by the department.
