Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has criticised PTI leader Junaid Akbar over his recent statements, accusing the party of seeking to create unrest through its planned protests.
In a statement on X, Tarar said Junaid Akbar’s remarks suggested that PTI did not intend to hold a peaceful protest. He alleged that the party could take actions that might lead to violence and disruption.
Tarar said the government had a duty to protect citizens, their businesses and daily activities while maintaining law and order.
He said the government would not allow protesters to block roads or disturb the routine lives of people. He added that authorities would take steps to maintain public order during the protests.
The minister made the remarks in response to Junaid Akbar’s statements about PTI’s planned political activities. Junaid has said PTI will march towards Islamabad on September 27 and remain there until its demands, including the release of Imran Khan, are met.
PTI has maintained that its political activities are part of its right to peaceful protest. PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan has also said the party’s September 27 protest will remain peaceful and that protesters will not attempt to storm Adiala Jail or use violence.
The latest exchange comes as tensions remain high between the government and PTI over the planned protest and the party’s wider political demands.
