Traffic diversion plan announced for M-2, M-3 motorway

A traffic diversion plan has been issued by the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) for the M-2 and M-3 motorway.

The officials of the NHMP said that a traffic diversion has been made for heavy and cargo vehicles travelling from Lahore towards Islamabad from September 23.

According to the spokesperson of the Motorway Police, heavy vehicles using the M-2 and M-3 motorways towards Islamabad will be diverted at Kala Shah Kaku.

The vehicles will be directed onto the GT Road, which authorities have designated as an alternative route during the restriction.

Drivers reaching Kala Shah Kaku will be moved off the M-2 and directed towards GT Road before continuing their journey towards Islamabad.

NHMP has also directed the drivers of heavy and cargo vehicles to follow the designated route and comply with traffic instructions from officers.

Motorists have also been advised to check traffic conditions and the latest route instructions before beginning their journey.

On the other hand, the Peshawar Motorway (M-1) will remain closed to all types of traffic from 11 PM on September 23, 2026, until further notice.

Those who are travelling from Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other districts are advised to avoid travelling on the M-1 and postpone unnecessary journeys.

People who are travelling between Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Peshawar may use the N-5/GT Road as an alternative route while the M-1 remains closed.

Travellers heading towards Swat and surrounding areas can also consider routes connecting through the Swat Expressway (M-16). But it will also depend on the latest traffic conditions.

Travellers are advised to check the latest traffic updates before starting their journey and follow instructions from the National Highways and Motorway Police.
