Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and National Assembly member Junaid Akbar has been booked under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) over allegations of spreading anti-state content and inciting violence through social media.
The case was registered at the Cyber Crime Reporting Centre of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Islamabad on September 23, 2026, on behalf of the state. According to the FIR, case No. 152/2026 was registered on the complaint of NCCIA Technical Assistant Muhammad Umair Waris.
Sections 9, 10 and 11 of the amended PECA 2016 have been invoked in the case.
According to the FIR, the NCCIA Islamabad in-charge received a source report alleging that Junaid Akbar was using his official TikTok account to spread anti-state content and a narrative against the state. Following the report, an initial inquiry was conducted and the matter was subsequently referred to the relevant officer for further investigation.
The FIR states that investigators identified around 339,500 followers on the TikTok account. It further alleges that one of the videos contained threats aimed at pressuring the government and creating fear and panic, as well as remarks allegedly promoting ethnic prejudice, damage to public and government property, violence and taking the law into one’s own hands.
The FIR also refers to another video in which Akbar allegedly said, “We will turn Islamabad into Somnath,” along with other remarks. The case documents allege that he also referred to possible state action and deaths during protests.
Another statement cited in the FIR allegedly contains strong remarks about the existing political and state system. According to the case document, Akbar said that the “75-80 years of occupation” must end and urged people to continue their struggle for their demands.
The NCCIA has alleged that such statements amount to incitement, encouragement of violence and attempts to undermine the functioning of the state, making them actionable under PECA.
Following approval from the competent authority, the case was registered and the investigation was handed over to Sub-Inspector Syed Asim Ali Zaidi. Copies of the FIR are being sent to the relevant authorities.
