Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that Iran is not a terrorist, but it is only defending itself against aggression. Adding that those who are terrorists themselves are accusing Iran of being one.
The Iranian President made a rare appearance on Wednesday, speaking at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
He stated that the President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, labelled them terrorists, even though they have been victims of terrorism themselves.
“We are merely exercising our right to self-defence against aggression,” Pezeshkian stated.
During his address to the UN General Assembly, he also displayed photographs of the martyred Ayatollah Khamenei. He also showed pictures of more than 150 children who were killed in the Minab school attack on the first days of the war.
He emphasised, “We are not terrorists; our innocent citizens were targeted in the war, and women and children alike were martyred.”
US delegate stage walkout
The US delegate staged a walkout during the Iranian President’s speech at the UNGA session in New York.
He further stated that acquiring nuclear technology for peaceful purposes is Iran’s right. Iran needs nuclear energy, not an atomic bomb.
The Iranian President asserted that Iran does not wish to commit aggression against anyone but maintains the right to defend its security and sovereignty.
He called upon the international community to view the allegations against Iran and the ongoing regional tensions based on facts.
Regional solutions for regional issues
Masoud Pezeshkian stated that solutions to the region’s problems should be sought at the regional level rather than through external interference.
He emphasised that countries in the region should resolve their differences through dialogue and mutual cooperation.
