The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to keep all relevant offices open as usual on Saturday, September 26, to ensure the collection of taxes and duties.
The FBR has directed all Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue to ensure that all relevant field formations, including Large Taxpayer Offices (LTOs) and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs), perform their routine official duties on Saturday.
According to the directives, officers and staff will perform their duties as usual on September 26, while the Chief Commissioners of Inland Revenue will monitor their performance and related matters.
The FBR said the decision to keep the offices open on Saturday aims to ensure the continued collection of duties and taxes.
Typically, FBR offices remain open on Saturdays in June because the end of June marks the close of Pakistan’s financial year. The FBR routinely keeps its field offices open during the final weekends of June, sometimes even until midnight, to collect duties and taxes and meet its annual revenue targets.
If the Federal Board of Revenue falls behind on its monthly or quarterly revenue targets, it may also require its LTOs, CTOs and RTOs to remain open on Saturdays to speed up tax collection and clear pending cases.
The FBR’s role extends beyond tax collection. It also helps the government design and manage fiscal and tax policies, investigates tax evasion, fraud, and money laundering, and manages customs controls and international trade duties through Pakistan Customs.
