Internet services have been partially disrupted in several areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi due to a cut in an optical fiber cable, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) said.
The disruption has affected mobile data and Wi-Fi services in parts of the twin cities, causing connectivity problems for residents.
According to the PTA, a telecom operator’s optical fibre cable was cut, causing a partial fault affecting some service providers.
The regulator said the internet disruption has been localised to certain areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi and surrounding regions.
Internet services in central and southern parts of the country are operating normally, although some areas in the northern region are also experiencing disruptions, the PTA said.
The authority said technical teams are working to repair the damaged optical fiber cable and restore internet connectivity in the affected areas.
The PTA advised users not to worry, saying efforts were underway to restore services as soon as possible.
The repair work and complete restoration of internet services may take a few hours, according to the authority.

A dual fiber cut in the Taxila-Gujar Khan area has affected internet and telecom services in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja said on Saturday.
In a post on X, Shaza Fatima said the fiber cuts occurred in the general Taxila-Gujar Khan area and impacted services in the twin cities.
She said one of the affected sites had been repaired, with most services restored, while repair work on the second fiber cut was underway.
“Today there was dual Fiber cut in general area Taxila/GujarKhan, impacting services in Pindi/Islamabad,” she said.
