Indian batting star Virat Kohli has indicated that the 2027 ODI World Cup could be his final World Cup appearance for India, with the veteran batter determined to go all out for the coveted trophy. Speaking in an interview, Kohli said his goal for the 2027 World Cup is clear: to win the tournament.
He emphasised that he is fully committed to giving his best and doing whatever it takes to help India lift the World Cup. Reflecting on the defeat to Australia in the 2023 World Cup final, Kohli admitted that the match played in Ahmedabad still causes him significant pain. According to the Indian batter, India was playing on home soil during the 2023 World Cup, and given the team’s form, the players were confident they would win the title.
Kohli shared that, prior to Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory in 2025, he was frequently haunted by memories of the 2016 final where his team lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad—and he feels a similar sense of lingering pain regarding the 2023 World Cup final. He recounted that during the final against Australia, he was batting on 54 and had set his sights on scoring a big century. According to Kohli, he felt that if they could score 140 or 150 runs, India would be in a strong position; he believed that while scores exceeding 300 were possible in a major final, India’s bowling attack was capable of containing Australia.
However, he admitted that after being bowled by Pat Cummins, it took several days to come to terms with the defeat, and he found himself constantly dwelling on it. Virat Kohli described the World Cup campaign as excellent, noting the fantastic atmosphere within the squad. He highlighted the great camaraderie among the players, emphasising that everyone was playing for one another.
