Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said Punjab has huge potential for tourism and that her government is using available resources to promote the sector.
In her message on World Tourism Day, Maryam Nawaz paid tribute to people working to promote tourism. She said travelling helps people explore the world, discover new places and appreciate its beauty.
She said Pakistan has many tourist attractions, while Punjab has a rich historical, cultural and natural heritage that can attract visitors from around the world.
Maryam Nawaz welcomed the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s decision to make Lahore the tourism and cultural capital this year. She said Punjab’s areas of natural beauty can compete with tourist destinations in developed countries.
The chief minister said the government was taking steps to promote religious tourism in the province. She said ancient forts, religious sites and scenic valleys could attract more tourists.
She said the Murree Glass Train would provide a new attraction for visitors. The government is also constructing and expanding roads, including Murree Mall Road. She added that Kotli Sattian was emerging as a new tourist destination.
Maryam Nawaz said the government wanted to promote a positive image of Pakistan internationally through tourism. She said developing the sector could highlight the country’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
She said promoting Punjab’s historical, cultural and tourism sites was among the government’s priorities. According to her, tourism could create new jobs and support local economies.
The chief minister said the government was improving tourist destinations by providing modern facilities and carrying out reconstruction work. It was also taking steps to introduce Punjab’s tourism sites to international visitors.
Maryam Nawaz said tourism was creating economic opportunities for young people and local communities. She added that the sector could play an important role in strengthening Punjab’s economy and promoting its culture.
