The M-1 motorway, which was closed amid security concerns following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march call and protests, has been reopened to traffic.
Traffic movement on different sections of the M-1 was suspended in view of the protests, causing difficulties for commuters.
Following the reopening, traffic has resumed, allowing passengers travelling from Peshawar towards Islamabad and other cities to use the motorway.
The closure had forced commuters to use alternative routes, while traffic flow was also affected at several locations.
Meanwhile, the N-5 Ghotki Bypass has also been reopened to traffic.
Following the postponement of the PTI protest, major roads in Islamabad and surrounding areas that were earlier closed due to the protest are gradually being cleared.
The protest has now been rescheduled for October 4, when the long march will begin from Peshawar and is expected to reach Islamabad the following day.
Earlier, the Jharikas-Burhan section was also subject to closure and restrictions due to the law-and-order situation. The Hakla-Yarik section is currently affected by law-and-order restrictions in both directions. The entry of Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTVs) from Kot Momin towards Islamabad remains closed. Traffic restrictions have also been reported around Attock Khurd.
In another development, internet services were partially disrupted in several areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi due to a cut in an optical fiber cable.
The disruption has affected mobile data and Wi-Fi services in parts of the twin cities, causing connectivity problems for residents.
A telecom operator’s optical fibre cable was cut, causing a partial fault affecting some service providers.
