A report claiming that Qatar Airways flight QR-630 landed at Jammu Airport in IIOJK has been exposed as fake, with airport officials confirming the flight landed safely in Sialkot.
A local news channel aired breaking news on September 28, claiming that a flight travelling from Doha to Sialkot had landed at Jammu Airport. The report was circulated in connection with Qatar Airways flight QR-630, prompting an inquiry into the claim.
According to initial verbal information obtained directly from Sialkot Airport, no such incident occurred and the aircraft did not land at Jammu Airport.
Officials said the map being shown in reports appears to have misrepresented the aircraft’s actual landing track. The discrepancy was apparently linked to GPS spoofing, a known occurrence in the vicinity of Sialkot Airport due to its proximity to the eastern border.
Flight QR-630 completed its journey safely and landed at Sialkot Airport on September 27, according to airport officials. No incident involving the aircraft was reported following its arrival.
The clarification comes after the purported Jammu landing report began circulating, raising questions about the accuracy of flight-tracking information used in the original report.
Data Control officials at Sialkot Airport have also informed the relevant authorities that a detailed message is being forwarded to the Directorate of Operations (DOPS) at Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) headquarters for formal information and record.
The development highlights how GPS spoofing can affect publicly available aircraft-tracking data and potentially lead to inaccurate interpretations of an aircraft’s location or flight path.
Authorities have therefore clarified that QR-630 landed safely at Sialkot Airport and that the claim of the flight landing at Jammu Airport was false.
