A clarification has been issued rejecting reports that an emergency is being imposed across Pakistan, terming the claims “false and fabricated”.
According to the statement, some analysts are spreading such reports deliberately to divert attention from the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It said there was no consideration of imposing an emergency across the country.
The statement further claimed that any constitutional options under discussion were limited only to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It attributed the consideration of such options to what it described as the provincial government’s failure to effectively address terrorism, maintain law and order and ensure good governance.
The statement criticised the provincial government led by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, alleging that it had distanced itself from the fight against terrorism since taking office and that law and order responsibilities were not being adequately addressed.
It questioned how long the existing situation could continue, saying the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could not bear the deterioration in governance and law and order any further.
