Sources say that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is exploring the possibility of former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait joining the coaching staff for Pakistan and former New Zealand cricketer Martin Guptill also joining the coaching staff.
Sources say they are in talks with Tait for the bowling consultant job and Guptill is on the table as fielding consultant.
The PCB is looking into hiring foreign consultants as part of its coaching staff development activities for the national team. The appointments are not yet confirmed though, and more talks are expected before it is officially announced.
Tait has been around the Pakistan cricket team before. The former Australian fast bowler has been the ex-bowling coach of the Pakistan men’s national team.
He has worked with Pakistani bowlers and may be a familiar name for the PCB who are looking to bolster their bowling department.
The development comes after former bowling coach Ashley Noffke resigned from his position. Since he retired, the PCB had sought to fill the bowlers’ coach’s position by advertising for it and soliciting applications.
In the meantime, Guptill may be able to add some outside experience to the fielding department if an agreement is reached. The former New Zealand opener played for his country in all three formats and was a part of New Zealand’s international team for several years.
The potential appointments would bring in expertise from outside Pakistan and the PCB is looking at specialisation in the coaching jobs.
Discussions with both former cricketers are underway and the final decision on who will be appointed will be made once the consultation process is completed, sources said.
