Islamabad and Rawalpindi received a fresh spell of rain on Monday. The rainfall prompted civic departments to increase their readiness. Rawalpindi civic departments went on high alert after orders from the commissioner. Officials also continued monitoring Nullah Lai amid the rainfall. The Pakistan Meteorological Department recorded significant rainfall across several areas. Saidpur village received 33mm of rain during the morning.
Golra, near E-11, recorded 25mm of rainfall. Pirwadhai received 28mm, while Gawalmandi recorded 27mm. Other areas also received substantial rainfall. H-8 recorded 23mm, while I-12 received 22mm. Shamsabad recorded 29mm of rain, according to PMD data. The figures showed widespread rainfall across the twin cities.
Authorities monitor Nullah Lai
The Pakistan Meteorological Department advised residents to stay away from Nullah Lai. Officials said they continued to monitor the water flow. Rawalpindi Commissioner Salman Ghani said authorities were closely watching the situation. He also said officials were keeping the public informed. Authorities reported that the water flow remained normal. The water level stood at 5.5 feet at Katarian.
It reached two feet at Gawalmandi, according to officials. Authorities continued monitoring the water levels during the rainfall.
Traffic police remain active
Islamabad Traffic Police also responded to the rainy conditions. Officers worked to maintain a smooth flow of traffic. The traffic police urged residents to follow traffic advisories. They also asked motorists to cooperate with officers on duty. Heavy rain also affected air travel in Islamabad. The Pakistan Airports Authority reported two flight diversions.
A Pakistan International Airlines flight from Paris was diverted to Multan. The aircraft landed there at 5:44am before later departing for Islamabad. An AirSial flight from Jeddah also faced a diversion. The aircraft was redirected to Peshawar because of bad weather.
Drainage operations continue
Drainage operations were underway across the twin cities. The Water and Sanitation Agency Rawalpindi deployed staff and heavy machinery. Teams focused on low-lying areas that could face drainage problems. Heavy machinery was stationed at several key locations. These included Liaquat Bagh and Committee Chowk Underpass. Teams also deployed equipment along Murree Road and Dhok Khabba.
Circular Road and low-lying parts of Sadiqabad also received machinery. Authorities urged citizens to contact the district administration during emergencies. Residents could also contact the WASA helpline for assistance. These measures aimed to manage rainwater and reduce disruption.
Weather outlook
The PMD forecast mainly dry weather across most parts of the country for the rest of the week. However, northern hilly areas may experience different conditions. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan may see partly cloudy weather. The forecast also mentioned isolated rain, strong winds and thunderstorms in those areas.
