Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has rejected recent claims by Afghan Taliban officials linking fighting in Nuristan to Pakistan.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday, the ministry said that the allegations were an attempt to divert attention from problems inside Afghanistan.
Pakistan responds to Taliban allegations
The ministry said the Afghan Taliban regime was facing internal pressure. This includes what it described as oppression, dissent and instability.
It also rejected claims made by Taliban officials against Pakistan. It added that the statements were aimed at shifting attention away from internal issues.
The ministry further described the Taliban government as non-inclusive and said that it was not representative of the Afghan people.
Pakistan criticises Taliban policies
The ministry also said that the Afghan Taliban were supporting terrorism and creating instability in the region.
It also stated that the Taliban were being used as a proxy for outside interests. The ministry said such policies could lead to further instability in the region.
“The latest allegations by so-called Minister for Borders and other mouthpieces of the Taliban regime seeking to attribute the fighting in Nuristan to Pakistan are self-serving rhetorical lies to divert attention from serious internal oppression, dissent and instability faced by the terror-sponsoring regime,” it said.
“The fact remains that the Afghan Taliban are a non-inclusive and non-representative Regime imposing themselves upon the people of Afghanistan by force and oppression,” the statement read.
“These comical statements to externalise their internal issues and follow-up rhetoric directed towards Pakistan actually reflect the despair and frustration in handling their own issues, “ it said.
“Afghan Taliban unfortunately remain willingly oblivious to their un-Islamic abetment of terror, acting as a proxy to Hindutva design for the sake of greed of a few of their leaders.”
“This rentier approach of destabilising the region for money as a proxy of agencies is leading the Taliban only towards a self-destructive path, devoid of dignity and honour,” it read.
The statement ended with the message: “Truth prevails over falsehood.”
