Web Desk: iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max users witnessed a significant element elimination this week. Apple quietly removed the “Night Mode Portraits” option in low light.
The owners who have changed to Portrait mode now do not see the Night Mode icon. Most importantly, the phone has stopped saving depth data required to make the background blur.
The change rapidly became visible on Reddit and in forums at Apple.
Subsequently, Apple’s citations confirmed that the 17 Pro series no longer supports the combination.
Reason for Removal of Feature
The missing feature impacts instances that require speedy and fulfilling low-light photography. For instance, birthday dinners and concerts now require extra arranging.
The users have the choice of either a bright Night Mode shot or a blurred-background Portrait. Apple has still not made the decision clear to its customers.
However, technical issues make the change credible Combination of the Night Mode with the Long Exposures with Portrait depth mapping creates a pathway to several issues.
In particular, it may cause an exaggerated noise or displeasing motion blur. Older Night Portraits was used to take pictures repeatedly at 12MP.
The iPhone 17 Pro now shoots at higher natural resolutions. Hence, preserving the image quality at such new levels must have demanded the elimination of the combined mode altogether.
Future Possibilities
Its real-life effect is evident: low-light portraits are now in vogue. Fake depth blur can be done later using third-party apps, although there are varied results.
Night Mode Portraits are virtually no longer available with the recent Pro models unless Apple changes its mind in a software update. Low-light portraits will now need some extra planning by users.
