Former Pakistan Under-19 captain Hassan Khan has received his first senior USA call-up. He has joined the USA squad for the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series. The tournament features the USA, UAE, and Namibia. The left-arm spinning all-rounder replaces fast bowler Ali Khan. Ali has been ruled out of the series with a hamstring injury. Hassan now has a chance to make his senior international debut.
The selection comes nearly a decade after Hassan led Pakistan at the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. He turns 28 on October 16. That Pakistan squad also included Shaheen Shah Afridi and Musa Khan. Hassan was once viewed as one of Pakistan’s promising young cricketers. However, his chances at senior level remained limited. He made only sporadic appearances in the Pakistan Super League. He later moved to the United States and continued his cricket career there. Major League Cricket gave him an important platform to rebuild his career.
Hassan played for the San Francisco Unicorns during the 2024 MLC season. He scored 204 runs at an average of 40.80. He also recorded a strike rate of 143.66 during the campaign. His all-round performance included 10 wickets. He then maintained his strong form during the 2025 MLC season. Hassan scored 225 runs at a strike rate of 187.50. He also hit 17 sixes during that season. Across his two MLC campaigns, he scored 429 runs from 262 balls. His tally included 30 sixes. His performances also opened doors in other major T20 competitions. Hassan earned opportunities in the Big Bash League, ILT20, and Caribbean Premier League.
He also returned to the Pakistan Super League in 2026. Hassan represented Hyderabad Kingsmen during the tournament. He scored 139 runs across eight innings. His PSL strike rate reached 195.77 during the campaign. His highest score was an unbeaten 33. He also took six wickets for the side. The latest selection marks an important step in his international career. Hassan now has an opportunity to make his senior debut for the USA.
The USA will hope his batting and bowling skills strengthen the squad. The team is also preparing for the World Cup Qualifiers in February.
