Earthquake jolts Swat and surrounding areas

Earthquake tremors were felt in Swat and surrounding areas, triggering panic among residents. According to the Seismological Centre, the earthquake measured 4.6 in magnitude and originated in the Hindu Kush mountain range at a depth of 196 kilometres. Residents felt the tremors, but no further details about possible damage or casualties were immediately available.

On the other hand, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a weather alert across Punjab, warning of rainfall in several districts from Saturday until October 14. According to the PDMA, a westerly weather system is expected to enter the country’s upper regions on Saturday, bringing rain to most parts of Punjab over the coming days.

Rain is forecast in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat and Gujranwala. Rain accompanied by strong winds is also expected in Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal and Mianwali.

Intermittent rainfall is likely in Faisalabad, Khushab, Bhakkar, Sargodha, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh. The authority has also warned of a risk of landslides in Murree, Galyat and other hilly areas. The PDMA has directed commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province to remain alert and ensure precautionary measures are in place.
