Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said a decision on whether to impose an emergency or governor’s rule in the province will be made tomorrow after approval from the cabinet.
Speaking about the ongoing consultations over the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kundi said the final decision would be taken after the cabinet’s approval.
The development comes amid growing discussions at the federal level over the province’s law and order situation and possible constitutional measures to address security concerns.
A high-level meeting chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari was earlier reported to have discussed the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including a proposal to impose an emergency in 12 districts of the province.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also called a meeting to review the province’s security situation, with senior federal ministers and officials expected to discuss the law and order situation and future strategy.
The possibility of imposing an emergency or governor’s rule has emerged as a key point of discussion amid the ongoing consultations.
However, the final decision remains subject to cabinet approval and an official announcement.
