Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said there is no room left to avoid imposing an emergency in KP.

When asked whether reconciliation was still possible, given that Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had met the prime minister, Naqvi urged reporters to ask Barrister Gohar about his efforts to avert the decision.

“Tell me how this matter can be avoided,” the interior minister said, adding that no room for further manoeuvre remained.

Naqvi also urged reporters to ask the relevant parties about the efforts he had made to resolve the matter, saying they could explain how far he had gone to find a solution.

“They themselves will tell you how far I went in my efforts to resolve the matter,” he said.

During a meeting with PM Shehbaz, Maulana Fazlur Rehman suggested resolving the matter through dialogue rather than imposing governor’s rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The JUI-F chief said he supported meaningful negotiations between the government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and would take his party’s core committee into confidence, the sources said.

He also told the prime minister that he would consult the opposition on the discussions and other related matters. The JUI-F chief is expected to hold consultations with opposition leaders soon.

PM Shehbaz holds talks with Maulana Fazlur Rehman over KP situation

Prior to this, a meeting was held at the President’s House, attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other ministers. Sources said the meeting discussed the situation in KP and decided to impose an emergency in the province.

Before the long march began, the federal government also held talks with PTI leaders to discuss the situation. However, the KP government reportedly refused to take action against terrorism in the province and opposed the federal government’s counterterrorism policy.
