Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has strongly condemned the imposition of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, calling it an undemocratic move and warning of further political and economic consequences.
In his reaction, Barrister Gohar rejected the decision, describing it as a serious political mistake that undermines the public mandate and provincial autonomy.
He said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have a constitutional and legal right to their mandate, adding that weakening provincial autonomy and creating confrontation between the federal and provincial governments would not bring peace or stability.
The PTI chairman said there was no disagreement over the need to eliminate terrorism, but the fight against militancy should not be used to suppress public voices, pursue political objectives or restrict the constitutional powers of a province.
He stressed that terrorism could only be addressed through national unity and a coordinated strategy.
“Strengthening the federation is not possible by weakening the provinces,” Barrister Gohar said, arguing that political wisdom, constitutional supremacy, meaningful negotiations and practical measures were needed to resolve the country’s challenges.
He said PTI would raise its voice on every constitutional, legal and democratic platform to protect the public mandate, provincial autonomy and democratic rights.
Barrister Gohar urged the federal government to reconsider its decision, saying it could still be withdrawn within days.
He called on the federal government to set aside its ego, understand ground realities, accept what he described as legitimate demands and respect public sentiment.
He warned that failing to review the decision could cause further political and economic damage and undermine the democratic process.
The PTI chairman said reconsidering political decisions was not a sign of weakness but a demonstration of wisdom in the national interest.
