Authorities have decided to shut down all types of sheesha cafes, indoor and outdoor in Islamabad following directions from the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Reportedly, authorities will take strict legal action against anyone who violates the ban.
The move comes after the Islamabad High Court raised serious concerns about illegal sheesha cafes operating in the city.
The court summoned Islamabad’s Chief Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner.
Both officials were directed to submit affidavits confirming that no illegal sheesha cafe would be allowed to operate in the capital.
The Chief Justice also asked how illegal sheesha cafes were continuing to operate in Islamabad.
The court questioned whether the government had introduced proper rules to regulate these businesses.
Government rules for sheesha cafes
The government lawyer informed the court that rules concerning sheesha cafes had already been prepared, during the hearing.
The lawyer said the proposed rules had been sent to the government for approval.
Moreover, authorities have warned that violations will result in legal action.
