Islamia University Bahawalpur has banned the use of TikTok and other social media apps on its campus.
The Directorate of Student Affairs has issued a notification announcing the ban. It covers apps such as TikTok and SnackVideo, along with other social media platforms.

Why has the university imposed the ban?

According to the notification, the university received complaints about videos being made and uploaded to social media without female students’ permission.
The university said the decision was taken to protect female students’ privacy and dignity. The purpose of the move is to prevent the unauthorised recording and sharing of their videos.

What action will be taken against violators?

The notification states that cases involving the creation or sharing of inappropriate content through these apps will be referred to the university’s disciplinary committee.
Students who violate the rules may face disciplinary action under the university’s policy.

Universities across Pakistan to ban smoking, vaping

Previously, universities across Pakistan have agreed to make their campuses free from smoking, vaping and other recreational nicotine products.
Vice chancellors and rectors have signed a joint charter to create healthier learning environments and discourage students from using these products.
The Charter for Tobacco and Nicotine-Free Campuses was adopted during the fifth monthly meeting of the Vice Chancellors and Rectors Forum. COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) hosted the meeting.
Under the charter, participating universities will work to make their campuses 100 per cent free from tobacco and recreational nicotine products.
These include cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vaping devices, heated tobacco products and nicotine pouches.
Universities will also launch awareness campaigns led by students and support research on tobacco use. They will introduce systems to monitor progress and review their efforts every year.
