Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, while addressing the Global Security Forum in Qatar, said that Field Marshal Asim Munir had played an important role in promoting global peace. He also said that the Mecca Agreement was a pact for peace and not war.
He said the conflict between Iran and the US had created serious risks for the Middle East and the rest of the world.
Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan chose the path of peace during this difficult time. He added that the country made every possible effort to reduce tensions and never gave up despite facing difficult moments.

How did Asim Munir help in peace efforts?

Naqvi highlighted the role of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace.
He recalled a meeting at the Lake Lucerne Summit in Switzerland. The summit was arranged by Pakistan and Qatar as part of their efforts to help end the conflict.
According to Naqvi, Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Field Marshal Asim Munir worked for more than 16 hours without a break to keep the negotiations on track.
Naqvi said the two leaders continued their efforts without media coverage or public announcements. He added that their main goal was to prevent further conflict and ensure that the talks did not fail.

What role did Pakistan play in the negotiations?

Naqvi also recalled the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the US on June 18. Pakistan acted as a mediator in the process.
The 14-point agreement provided a framework to help end the war that began with US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
The agreement was followed by the Lake Lucerne Summit in Switzerland. Pakistan and Qatar organised the meeting to support further negotiations and reduce regional tensions.
Naqvi said Pakistan remained committed to peace despite the challenges. He stressed that the efforts of both countries were aimed at stopping the conflict from spreading further.
