The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved five construction projects in Islamabad, including two major high buildings in the city’s Blue Area.
The approvals were granted by the CDA’s Design Vetting Committee on Saturday (today) to promote vertical development and modernise the federal capital.
The approved projects include two skyscrapers planned for Blue Area, one of Islamabad’s main commercial centres.
The first building will be 659 feet tall and have 45 storeys.
Meanwhile, the second tower will reach 580 feet and have 42 storeys.
These buildings are expected to contribute to the city’s changing skyline and provide more space for commercial development.
The CDA is encouraging developers to construct modern high buildings and hotels that meet international standards.
Officials believe that vertical development can attract investment and create new opportunities for businesses.
CDA sets safety conditions for construction projects
Apart from the two high-rise towers, the committee granted conditional approval to three other construction projects.
However, these projects are required to meet specific technical requirements before proceeding.
The CDA has instructed developers to maintain high construction standards and ensure that buildings are structurally safe.
The authority stressed that safety requirements must not be ignored during construction.
The CDA plans to transform Islamabad into a modern and tourist-friendly city through planned urban development.
However, the CDA has not announced completion dates or investment costs for the approved projects.
CDA questioned over HEC land
Previously, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) faced questions over its decision to include 250 acres of land meant for the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in the Margalla Enclave housing project.
The land was originally reserved for two public-sector universities. However, it was later included in a housing project being developed by the CDA and the Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took notice of the matter and asked for an immediate report.
