ISLAMABAD: Former spy chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed has been sentenced to 14 years rigorous imprisonment on account of multiple charges including the Top City Housing society case.
In November 2023, Top City Housing Society owner Moez Ahmed Khan had filed a petition in the Supreme Court, accusing former DG ISI Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed of abusing his powers.
The petition claimed that on May 12, 2017, ISI officials, acting on orders from the former DG, raided Moez Ahmed Khan’s office and home.
During the raid, the officials allegedly seized gold, diamonds, cash, and other valuable items. Moez Ahmed Khan also claimed that ISI officers took Rs 40 million from him.
The case was heard by a three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, along with Justices Athar Minallah and Aminuddin.
This same bench later ordered an investigation into Faiz Hameed, which led the Pakistan Army to form a committee in April 2024 to probe the former ISI chief.
During the hearing, it was revealed that the Supreme Court’s Human Rights Cell had already handled another case related to the same housing society. When the Chief Justice requested relevant records, the court was informed that former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar had ordered all related files to be destroyed before leaving office.
The Supreme Court noted that the matter was not related to fundamental rights and advised Moez Ahmed Khan to approach the Ministry of Defence or other relevant forums. The bench also said that the earlier hearing by former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar had not followed proper constitutional procedures.
The court added that if the petitioner believed the case was malicious, he could file a civil or criminal case against Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed and other retired officers in the relevant courts.
