Dengue prevention measures
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that can cause high fever, severe headaches, body aches and muscle pain. In severe cases, patients may experience bleeding and other serious complications that require urgent medical attention.
As dengue mosquitoes breed in stagnant water, eliminating potential breeding sites is essential to controlling the spread of the disease. Residents are advised to remove standing water from flowerpots, containers and other household items and to keep garbage bins covered.
People should also take precautions to avoid mosquito bites by wearing full-sleeved clothing, using mosquito repellents and sleeping under mosquito nets where necessary.
Keeping doors and windows screened or closed when mosquitoes are active can help prevent them from entering homes. Insecticides and mosquito-control sprays may also be used in accordance with product instructions.
Health experts advise residents to maintain cleanliness in and around their homes, regularly inspect areas where water may collect and ensure that water containers are properly covered.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and adopt preventive measures to reduce the risk of dengue transmission, particularly during periods of increased mosquito activity.
