The upper regions of Chitral have experienced their first snowfall of the winter season, bringing a sharp decline in temperatures and signalling the onset of harsher winter conditions in the mountainous areas.
According to the local administration on Monday, snowfall was reported in Shandur Top, Khot, Broghil, Madaklasht and several other high-altitude areas, where snow has covered the surrounding landscapes.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast further intermittent snowfall in upper Chitral over the next 24 to 48 hours, warning that temperatures are likely to fall further.
The worsening weather could affect routine activities, particularly in remote mountainous communities, where residents may face difficulties accessing essential supplies and carrying out daily tasks.
Snow-covered roads and deteriorating weather conditions are also expected to make travel to higher-altitude destinations increasingly difficult. Authorities have advised residents to prepare for the approaching winter by arranging adequate warm clothing, fuel and essential household supplies.
Tourists and visitors have also been urged to check weather updates and road conditions before travelling and avoid unnecessary trips during snowfall. The first snowfall marks the beginning of the winter season in Chitral’s upper reaches, with more snow and colder weather expected in the days ahead.
