The government of Pakistan has completely banned Meta glasses in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved restrictions on the import of camera-enabled smart glasses amid concerns about their potential use in workplaces.
The committee has also recommended that provincial governments and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) introduce appropriate regulations to govern the use of these devices in workplace environments.
The decision was taken during an ECC meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb at the Finance Division on Wednesday.
The proposed restrictions come amid concerns that smart glasses equipped with cameras could raise privacy and security issues in offices and other workplaces.
The committee has called on provincial administrations and the ICT authorities to develop rules addressing the use of such devices.
However, the announcement did not provide further details about the scope of the import restrictions, their implementation timeline or whether existing owners of camera-enabled smart glasses would be affected.
The decision is part of the government’s efforts to address concerns surrounding the use of camera-enabled technology in workplaces.
