Shaheen Chowk underpass to be opened by next week

ISLAMABAD: The Shaheen Chowk Underpass Project is near its completion and is likely to be opened for traffic by next week.

According to CDA officials, the construction work on the Shaheen Chowk Underpass Project is moving at a fast pace and is likely to be opened for traffic by December 31, 2025.

Earlier on Tuesday, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the Shaheen Chowk Underpass project and inspected construction work and reviewed on-ground progress.

The minister said the underpass will ease traffic congestion in Islamabad and directed officials to complete the project within the given timeline.

Mohsin Naqvi stressed that work pace must remain steady and ordered strict adherence to construction quality. He also directed CDA to add modern landscaping and plantations. He said the beautification will improve the project’s visual impact.

The chairman Capital Development Authority briefed the minister on project progress. According to the Capital Development Authority, structural work on the underpass has been completed.

The underpass is located at the busy junction of 9th Avenue and Khyaban-i-Iqbal. The area faces daily traffic pressure and long delays.

The project costs around Rs1.3 billion. Once completed, it will remove traffic signals at the junction.
