LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) supremo and former three-time prime minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will celebrate his 76th birthday today.
Nawaz Sharif was born on December 25, 1949, in Raiwind, Punjab. Nawaz Sharif held the office of Prime Minister of Pakistan three times. He first served the PM House from 1990 to 1993, then from 1997 to 1999 and later from 2013 to 2017. Before becoming the Prime Minister, he had served as Chief Minister of Punjab.
Nawaz Sharif joined politics in the 1980s. He got the opportunity to work in the government for the first time during the era of General Zia ul Haq, when he was appointed as the Finance Minister.
Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan
PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif returned to Pakistan on October 21, 2023, after residing in London for four years. At the time of his return, it was widely stated that he had come back to become Pakistan’s prime minister for the fourth time.

Earlier in October, Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz celebrated her 52nd birthday, with festivities organized across Punjab and other parts of Pakistan.
Supporters and members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) marked the occasion by cutting cakes and sharing messages on social media.
Born on October 28, 1973, in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz is the daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and wife of Captain (R) Safdar.
Her political journey began during the 2013 general elections, when she played a leading role in the PML-N campaign that brought the party back to power.
In February 2024, she made history by becoming Punjab’s first woman chief minister. As a CM she has focused on women empowerment, education and youth.
Besides being a CM, Maryam Nawaz is also known for her glamour and fashion style, for which she is often criticised by her opponents.
PM Shehbaz says brother Nawaz’s work buried slogan politics
PM Shehbaz Sharif earlier praised his brother, former PM Nawaz Sharif, for focusing on development projects when others were busy with slogans.
He further said that the launch of these projects had “buried that style of politics”.
He was addressing the ceremony of the mass transport system, which Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz also attended.
The prime minister said that history would remember Nawaz Sharif’s achievements with golden words, including the country’s acquisition of nuclear power in 1998.
