Islamabad: MET department issued December end weather forecast, weather next week will stay cold and dry in Pakistan. This weather will continue to grip most parts of the country, with northern areas feeling the sharpest drop in temperatures.

The cold conditions are expected to persist over the next twelve hours, keeping mornings chilly and nights particularly cold in higher regions.

Fog may disrupt travel in plains

At the same time, patchy fog is likely to form overnight and during the early morning across plain areas of northeast and southern Punjab, as well as parts of upper Sindh. Weather officials urged motorists to remain cautious, warning that reduced visibility could affect travel during peak morning hours.

Cities wake up to winter chill

Temperatures recorded early in the morning highlighted the contrast across the country. Islamabad and Peshawar both reported six degrees Celsius, while Lahore stood at eleven degrees. Karachi remained relatively warmer at fourteen degrees.

Colder conditions prevailed in elevated areas. Quetta and Gilgit recorded minus one degree Celsius, Murree stood at three degrees, and Muzaffarabad reported five degrees.

Severe cold in occupied Kashmir

In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, very cold and dry weather is expected in Srinagar, Leh, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian and Baramula, while Jammu is likely to experience cold but dry conditions.

Morning temperatures reflected the severity of the cold spell. Srinagar, Pulwama and Baramula each recorded minus three degrees Celsius, Anantnag and Shopian stood at minus two degrees, while Leh plunged to minus thirteen degrees. Jammu recorded a comparatively milder seven degrees.

Cold spell set to continue

Looking ahead, meteorologists said there is little change expected in the prevailing weather pattern. Cold and dry conditions are likely to dominate the region, particularly in northern and mountainous areas, prompting authorities to advise residents to take precautions during the night and early morning hours.
