Karachi: President Asif Ali Zardari gave a message on the 18th death anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, saying that she fought hard for the constitution, parliament, and the rights of the people.
The world, and especially Pakistan, are remembering Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto as the martyr of democracy.
We are paying tribute to a leader whose life was deeply connected to the struggle for democracy in Pakistan.
Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was the first female Prime Minister of the Islamic world to be elected twice by the people of Pakistan.
President Zardari added that her repeated victories in elections were proof that she believed in peaceful politics and democracy.
He said that she was the voice of middle-class society, including farmers, workers, and poor families. Those were the centre of her politics. She focused on public welfare and tried to increase opportunities for employment, education, especially for the youth.
Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was against sectarianism, hatred and intolerance and constantly raised her voice for the rights of minorities. Her dream was a country where all religions could live with dignity, equality and security.
She also understood that Pakistan need to evolve accordingly as the world changes. Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto believed in a Pakistan where everyone was treated equally without any distinction.
