LAHORE: Once again Lahore’s air quality reported unhealth as most of the areas of Punjab on Sunday engulfed by air pollution.
According to an air prominent environment website the metropolitan city has been ranked the second most polluted city of the world with 287 level of particulate matter in the air. Kahna in Pakistan has been reported most polluted areas where 568 level of particulate matter recorded.
As per report, Faisalabad’s air pollution reading measured at 338, Gujrat 300 and Gujranwala recorded 296 particulate matters.
According to the Commission for Air Quality Management the worsening of the air quality was driven by high moisture.
Previously air pollution and smog haunted Punjab with the beginning of winter. Authorities were made efforts to contain smog in cities. This year Punjab dealt with unadorned air pollution that soared to alarming levels and posing serious public health issues.
For a period of time Lahore was enveloped by smog a mix of fog and pollutants. According to experts this is the caused of low-grade diesel fumes, smoke from seasonal agricultural burning as temperatures.
Lahore ranks second most polluted city in world
Earlier, Lahore ranked as the world’s second most polluted city as thick smog has blanketed the provincial capital.
As per details, the city once again ranked as the second most polluted city in the world, with the average Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching an alarming 471. Some parts of the city reported even higher readings: Lower Mall 804, Gulberg 758, Sanda Road 745, DHA 724, and Shalimar 585.
Other cities in Punjab are also suffering under thick smog. Gujranwala recorded an AQI of 637, Faisalabad 365, and Multan 245 all falling within hazardous levels that pose serious health risks.
The Environmental Protection Department warned that polluted air coming from the Indian border has started affecting the air quality of the region.
