Karachi police to use drones to curb New Year aerial firing

KARACHI: Police have announced that drones will be used to curb aerial firing in Karachi on New Year’s night in the port city.

As per details, the Sindh police have decided to conduct a crackdown against the aerial firing in Central Karachi using latest technology on New Year’s night.

The SSP central said that police will carry out arrests across the city after the drones identify perpetrators of aerial firing.

He stated aerial firing poses a serious threat to public safety and has previously resulted in injuries and loss of innocent lives.

Police have also urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement and help ensure a safe and peaceful start to the new year.

Pakistan weather New Year 2026

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain and snowfall from December 30 to January 2, 2026.

Major tourist destinations, including Murree, Swat, Hunza, Naran, and the Kashmir valleys, are expected to see snow.

The National Weather Forecasting Centre said a westerly wave will enter western Pakistan. On the night of December 29 and intensify from December 30.

The system will affect most upper and central areas on December 31. And continue in northern regions until the morning of January 2.

Balochistan weather on New Year

In Balochistan, rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall over hills are expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Musakhel, Turbat, Gwadar, Jiwani, Lasbela, Kech, Awaran, Chagai, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk, and Kharan from the night of December 29 to December 31.

Sindh weather on New Year

In Sindh, isolated light rain and drizzle are likely in Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Thatta, and Badin on December 30.

KP weather on New Year

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will experience rain, wind, thunderstorms, and moderate to heavy snowfall in upper areas. Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Waziristan. Additionally, in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Bannu, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and Kohat will be affected from December 30 to January 1.

Kashmir, GB weather on New Year

Northern regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir will also see rain, wind, thunderstorms, and moderate snowfall.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar will be affected.

In Kashmir, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur will see precipitation from the evening of December 30 to the morning of January 2.

Punjab weather on New Year

In Punjab and Islamabad, rain, wind, and thunderstorms with snowfall are expected in Murree and the Galliyat region from the evening of December 30 to the morning of January 2.

Isolated rain is also forecast in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Potohar region, Sargodha, and Faisalabad. And Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, and Gujrat from December 31 to January 1.

Mianwali, Bhakkar, Khushab, Noorpur Thal, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalnagar, Muzaffargarh, Jhang, and Sahiwal will receive rain on December 31.

Tourist advisory on New Year

The PMD has issued safety advisories. Snowfall may cause road closures and slippery conditions in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, and Kohistan.

Additionally, in Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Murree, Galliyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli from the night of December 30 to the morning of January 2.

Landslides and avalanches are also possible in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.
