Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message for the new year (2026), paid tribute to the armed forces and martyrs of the country. PM Shehbaz advised citizens to work for the betterment of Pakistan. He also promised to struggle for the improvement of the country’s economy.
He extended his warm wishes to all Pakistanis, and prayed for happiness and prosperity on the occasion of the New Year.
He wrote in a post on X, “ Greetings to all Pakistanis at home and abroad. As 2025 draws to a close, we look back with gratitude and humility, and move ahead with renewed resolve. The past year has tested our nation in many ways, but it has also reaffirmed our collective strength and self-belief. Through perseverance, discipline, and difficult yet necessary decisions, we have worked to stabilize the economy, restore confidence, and place Pakistan firmly on the path of economic recovery and sustainable growth.”
He also praised armed forces and particularly Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as he mentioned in his post on X, “ Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir demonstrated exemplary military leadership that the whole world has come to respect and admire. We are immensely proud of our army, our air force and our navy who taught our enemy that wars are won with heart and not by hubris.”
He concluded his tweet with beautiful words, “Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.”

On New Year’s Eve, aerial firing was reported in multiple areas of Karachi. According to the media reports, at least 19 people got injured as a result of celebratory gunfire. However, police officials took action against those who were involved in aerial firing.
Rescue officials confirmed that five people were injured in Korangi, Golimar, Five Star and the New Sabzi Mandi area, following the celebratory gunfire.
The people who sustained injuries include three women and two children.
