New Year Celebrations: Multiple injured in Karachi amid aerial firing

On New Year’s Eve, aerial firing was reported in multiple areas of Karachi. According to the media reports, at least 19 people got injured as a result of celebratory gunfire. However, police officials took action against those who were involved in aerial firing.

Rescue officials confirmed that five people were injured in Korangi, Golimar, Five Star and the New Sabzi Mandi area, following the celebratory gunfire.

The people who sustained injuries include three women and two children.
Karachi Police said that in another incident in the area of Chhaneesar Goth, a man got injured when a bullet hit him from an unknown direction.

The media report confirmed that Karachi police have arrested more than 30 individuals, and Karachi Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Jawed Odho stated that legal action will be taken against the responsible individuals.

“There will be no permission for aerial firing or violations of the law. Firing incidents will not be registered as aerial firing cases but as attempted murder,” he said while speaking to the private media channel.

The Sindh Rangers have completed security arrangements for the New Year celebrations across Karachi and the Sindh province.

In Karachi and other parts of Sindh, mobile and motorcycle squads have been deployed on major roads to make sure of public safety.

Sensitive areas will see increased snap checking, mobile patrolling, and motorcycle patrols.

A large number of Rangers personnel will remain on duty across Karachi and interior Sindh to maintain law and order.
