LONDON: Prince Harry will be arriving in London in late January, but once again, he will be arriving alone. His wife, Meghan Markle and children will not be accompanying him. He will be arriving for his long-running legal battle against Associated Newspapers Limited, publisher of the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday and MailOnline.
Meghan Markle will not be travelling with her husband and staying behind in California with her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. This will continue a pattern that has now quietly defined the Sussexes’ relationship with the UK for the last 3 years.
The last time the Duchess visited Britain was at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022. The children have not visited the UK for an even longer time. They last visited UK during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The couple have stepped back from royal duties since then. Harry had made multiple appearances on British soil, but alone. He has visited for commemorative events and courtrooms, but his family has consistently stayed in the United States.
Meghan not accompanying Harry, considering he is going for a legal battle, raises concerns about the state of their marriage. Other speculations have also been fuelled about security concerns, her relationship with the royals and her reluctance to enter the UK’s spotlight again.
Harry’s return to UK is strictly due to the High Court showdown and has no social nature to it. It is not yet confirmed whether he will meet his family.
It is important to note that Archie and Lilibet have rarely ever met their father’s family. King Charles has only met his granddaughter once when she was six years old. It was during the Sussexes’ brief visit to the UK in 2022.
Since 2022, multiple royal family milestones have passed, but the whole family has never once visited the UK. Archie and Lilibet’s birthdays are celebrated privately, and their father’s family are never seen at such events.
