The so-called ‘missing person’, as claimed by the Baloch rights activist Mahrang Baloch, was identified as a key commander in the Jiwani attack.

Pakistani authorities on July 4 have identified the alleged ringleader of the recent attack in Jiwani as Ataullah, son of Gaji Khan, claiming he is a commander of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and belongs to Awaran district.

According to official sources, Ataullah had previously appeared on lists of alleged missing persons highlighted by Baloch rights activist Mahrang Baloch, who had publicly called for his recovery on several occasions.

The development has renewed debate over the issue of missing persons and accountability in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province.

Some public figures have called for anyone found to be involved in terrorism or the killing of civilians to face legal action in accordance with the law.

At the same time, they have stressed that state institutions must ensure all operations are carried out within the framework of the Constitution and due process.

Analysts said that the issue highlights the complexity of balancing national security concerns with the rights of missing persons and their families.

They argue that being listed as a missing person does not by itself establish innocence or guilt, and that every individual is entitled to legal protections and a fair judicial process until allegations are proven in court.

The BLA is a banned militant group in Pakistan and has claimed responsibility for a number of attacks in recent years. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the Jiwani attack.
