Indian Media: ICC could move Bangladesh’s matches to Sri Lanka

Bangladesh India matches

NEW DELHI: Indian media have started suggesting that Bangladesh’s matches in the T20I World Cup 2026 may be moved out of India. The matches might be shifted by the ICC out of India after a request from Bangladesh.

According to Indian media, ICC could not hold a meeting on Sunday due to it being a holiday. The matches might be moved to Sri Lanka.

This means that the schedule for the T20I World Cup will be changed. Since all of Bangladesh’s matches were supposed to be held in India.

On 4th Jan 2026, the Bangladesh Cricket Team refused to travel to India for the upcoming T20I World Cup.

According to the team, under the current conditions, the team can not travel to India and has requested that their matches be moved elsewhere.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to move all the matches of Bangladesh from India to Sri Lanka.

The BCB stated, “The board believes that such a step is necessary to safeguard the safety and well-being of Bangladeshi players, team officials, board members, and other stakeholders and to ensure that the team can participate in the tournament in a secure and appropriate environment.”

If matches are moved, the shift in schedule will be a big one as all four of the group matches of Bangladesh are set in India. The tournament is co-hosted by Sri Lanka, and their matches will have most likely moved them.
