Ramadan, Eid: expected dates in Pakistan

Web Desk: The Pakistan renowned astronomer Dr Faheem Hashmi forecast that the holy month of Ramadan would begin on February 19 and while Eidul Fitr would be observed on the March 21st.

Dr. Faheem Hashmi has said the possible dates for Ramadan and two Eids in Pakistan are based on astronomical calculations.

He said there is a strong possibility that the moon for Ramadan will be seen on February 18, making February 19 the first day of Ramadan.

According to him that the Shawwal moon is predicted to be visible on March 20, while Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be observed on March 21.

Dr. Hashmi further stated that the month of Zul Hijjah is expected to begin on May 17, with Eid-ul-Adha likely to fall on May 27, subject to moon sighting.

Meanwhile, the official list of public holidays for 2026 has also surfaced and several religious holidays depend on moon sighting, which means slight changes in dates are possible.

Important note on moon-sighting

Authorities have clarified that Islamic holidays are subject to moon sighting, and the dates may change slightly depending on official announcements by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

Citizens, businesses, and government offices have been advised to finalize travel and leave plans only after official notifications are issued closer to each holiday.
