Lahore: The Punjab education department has decided to appoint permanent heads in around 30,000 primary and middle schools.
Teachers who pass the required test will be appointed as operational heads and will receive an additional allowance ranging from Rs5,000 to Rs7,000.
Applications for the test are expected to be invited by the end of January.
So far, around 600 operational heads have been appointed on a test basis.
Although an allowance of Rs10,000 per month was announced for OPS heads, teachers say that even after three months they have not received it.
Teachers have demanded that if appointments are being made through tests, the promised benefits should also be provided.

Earlier it was reported the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) announced nearly 3000 job positions.
As per details, the government, in a big relief for the low-qualified individuals, okayed hiring of 2,800 watchmen (chowkidars) for schools in over 25 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The latest development was also confirmed by KP’s Finance Department, and a formal approval was given to fill vacant posts in schools.
The hiring process will be carried out via public advertisements, open competition and a strict merit-based process.
District-wise appointments
The highest number of positions have been allocated for Mansehra, with 377 vacancies approved. For Bannu, 263 posts have been sanctioned, while Mardan has been given 256 positions.
In Peshawar, 162 chowkidar posts will be filled. Laki Marwat has been allocated 160 vacancies, and Abbottabad will receive 154 positions under the new recruitment plan.
Teaching Jobs in KP 2026
Recruitment in schools located in plain areas will start on January 16.
In cold and mountainous regions, the hiring process will begin in March due to weather conditions.
Teachers in summer zone schools will work from January 16 to May 31, 2026, for five months.
In winter zone schools, teachers will be employed from March 1 to June 30, 2026, for four months.
All appointments will be made through PTCs from the officially notified talent pool, following a transparent procedure.
