PCB announces third qualified bidder for two new PSL franchises

PCB Bidder PSL

WEBDESK: The third qualified bidder for the upcoming auction of two new Pakistan Super League (PSL) teams has been revealed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on January 5 2026, for the league’s 11th edition.

The announcement was made by the cricket board through its social media handles on Monday. They shared a post that read: “The excitement is building. VGO TEL Mobile confirmed as Bidder [No.3] for the HBL PSL Teams Auction.”

The auction will take place on Thursday at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad. The tournament is set to run from March 26 to May 3.

Before this, the number one and two bidders have also been confirmed by the PCB. The first qualified bidder is Inverex Solar Energy, and the second qualified bidder is the OZ group of companies. The PSL is finally expanding from six to eight teams after 10 seasons. Currently, PCB is completing the technical evaluations of proposals submitted by interested groups.

This expansion to eight teams marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the league. The addition of two new teams reflects the growing commercial appeal and the league’s popularity among fans in Pakistan and abroad.

Adding two new teams will also offer fresh new opportunities for young and local talent. Domestic players will be able to compete on an international level with world-class players from around the world.

The competition within the tournament is also expected to increase. The player drafts, team combinations and matchups are going to become more exciting and unpredictable.

Looking at it from a business perspective, despite the country’s economic challenges, strong interest is shown by multiple corporate groups, highlighting PSL’s strong brand value. Hopefully, the inclusion of new teams will lead to increased sponsorship deals, higher broadcasting revenues, and greater regional representation.
